PM Modi asked to simplify GST for ease of compliance, says Finance Minister

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman recently revealed that about eight months ago, Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally called her and said – “Do some work on GST and ensure ease of compliance.”

According to her, the PM wants the GST system to become transparent, simple, and business-friendly so that common taxpayers, startups, and small traders can easily file taxes without unnecessary hurdles.

Why Ease of Compliance Matters?

Ease of compliance ensures that tax procedures are simple enough for everyone. It helps—

  • Save time for businesses
  • Reduce complicated paperwork
  • Prevent tax evasion
  • Maintain steady government revenue

GST Reforms Already in Action

The government has already taken several steps to improve GST compliance, such as—

  • QRMP Scheme (Quarterly Returns, Monthly Payments)
  • Online refund process
  • Composition scheme for small traders
  • Encouraging digital payments

Sitharaman assured that more reforms are on the way to make India’s tax system even smoother and strengthen the country’s position in global business rankings.
