India’s Passport Jumps to 77th Position: Visa-Free Access to 59 Countries

August 14, 2025 – India’s passport has made a significant leap in the Henley Passport Index, moving from 85th to 77th place. This improvement allows Indian citizens to access 59 countries either visa-free or with visa-on-arrival, highlighting India’s growing diplomatic influence and international mobility.

The Henley Passport Index ranks passports based on visa-free access worldwide, using data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA). Experts attribute India’s rise to strengthened bilateral agreements, improved passport security, and proactive global engagement.

While India still trails high-income nations like Singapore and Japan, the rise signals enhanced convenience for tourism, business, and education abroad. Analysts predict further improvements if India continues to expand visa-free arrangements and deepen international relations.
