Woman Attempts Suicide in Pipili Over Debt Burden

Pipili, Odisha, August 14, 2025 – In a distressing incident in Pipili, a woman attempted suicide due to mounting financial debt. The 30-year-old, whose identity has not been disclosed, suffered severe burns and is currently in critical condition at AIIMS Bhubaneswar.
According to Puri Additional SP Sachin Patel, there were no indications of family disputes. Authorities recovered a suicide note and a kerosene bottle at the scene, suggesting the act was deliberate. The note has been sent for forensic examination, and nearby CCTV footage is under review to gather more information.
The woman has reportedly suffered burns over 90% of her body and remains on a ventilator. Police are planning to record her statement once her medical condition stabilizes. The Pipili SDPO has visited AIIMS to oversee the patient’s treatment.
Urmila Mahapatra, a member of the Odisha State Commission for Women, visited the patient and highlighted the lack of ICU beds in the Burn Ward, which has delayed her transfer. Her father and husband have been questioned and reportedly denied the existence of any family conflicts.
