Dengue Outbreak Continues in Bangladesh, Health Officials on High Alert

Bangladesh is witnessing a rapid surge in dengue fever cases, putting significant strain on the country’s healthcare system. Since early August 2025, more than 24,000 people have been infected, with death toll rising to 101. These figures mark a sharp increase compared to previous years, raising serious concerns among health authorities.
Experts attribute this outbreak to climate change, persistent warm and humid weather, and stagnant water following heavy rains, creating ideal breeding grounds for the Aedes mosquito, which spreads dengue. Urban areas with clogged drains, water tanks, and open spaces with standing water serve as perfect habitats for mosquitoes.
The Ministry of Health has urged the public to remain vigilant and maintain strict cleanliness. People are advised to use mosquito nets, eliminate standing water, and regularly apply mosquito repellents. Hospitals are seeing a surge in dengue patients, leading to shortages of beds in many healthcare centers.
Health officials emphasize the importance of early recognition of dengue symptoms, which typically include high fever, headaches, muscle and joint pain, and red rashes on the skin. Immediate medical attention is recommended if severe symptoms like bleeding, extreme weakness, or breathing difficulties occur.
International health organizations are collaborating with the Bangladesh government to strengthen dengue control measures. They have called for intensified health education campaigns and increased resources for mosquito control.
Citizens are urged to take all necessary precautions to protect themselves and their families during this season to help curb the outbreak as soon as possible.
