India’s First Hydrogen Train Is Coming: Zero-Emission Travel Starts Soon!

August 14, 2025 – India is set to roll out its first hydrogen-powered train, marking a major milestone in eco-friendly transportation. The train will operate on the Jind-Sonipat route in Haryana, carrying over 2,600 passengers and reaching speeds of 110 km/h.

Powered by hydrogen fuel cells, it produces zero carbon emissions, releasing only water vapor, and aligns with India’s goal of net-zero emissions by 2030. A dedicated hydrogen refueling station in Jind will support its operations, supplying about 430 kilograms of hydrogen daily.

This development positions India alongside countries like Germany, France, Sweden, and China in adopting green railway technology. Indian Railways plans to expand hydrogen-powered trains to heritage and mountainous routes, offering a sustainable alternative to diesel and electric trains.
