India is witnessing varied weather patterns today, August 17, 2025, as heavy rains and cyclonic activities affect several regions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red alerts for Mumbai and parts of Andhra Pradesh due to extremely heavy rainfall. Mumbai recorded 245 mm of rain in just 24 hours, raising concerns over river flooding in areas near Amba, Kundalika, Jagbudi, and Kodavli rivers. Residents are advised to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel.
In Andhra Pradesh, a low-pressure area is intensifying into a cyclonic storm. Authorities have issued warnings in five districts, urging residents to take necessary precautions and stay alert. Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh experiences warm and humid conditions due to limited rainfall, causing discomfort in areas like Kanpur.
West Bengal is under cloudy skies with intermittent rain. Kolkata is expected to witness warm and humid weather with highs around 34°C, while North Bengal districts such as Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, and Alipurduar may receive heavy to very heavy rainfall. Alipurduar has already recorded isolated extremely heavy showers exceeding 20 cm.
The extended forecast from August 18–22 predicts continued warm and humid weather with periodic rainfall. West Bengal is expected to receive over 448 mm of rain during August. Residents are advised to follow safety precautions, keep updated with local forecasts, and avoid travel during heavy rains to stay safe.
