Severe Rain Alert for North Gujarat IMD Warns of Heavy Downpour in Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Patan, Aravalli

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a severe rain alert for North Gujarat, warning residents to prepare for heavy downpours in the coming days. Authorities have already placed disaster response teams on standby to handle any emergencies.

IMD’s Forecast

According to the IMD, districts such as Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Patan, and Aravalli are likely to witness very heavy rainfall. Moreover, thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds may cause waterlogging in low-lying areas. As a result, people living near rivers and reservoirs have been advised to remain cautious.

Possible Impact

The forecast suggests that continuous heavy rain could lead to flood-like situations. Consequently, farmers worry about potential crop damage, while urban residents face the risk of traffic disruptions and power cuts. Furthermore, officials have warned that overflowing dams and rivers may worsen the situation.

State Government’s Response

The Gujarat government has activated control rooms in all vulnerable districts. In addition, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and NDRF teams are on high alert for rescue and evacuation operations. District administrations have also begun shifting residents from flood-prone zones to safer shelters.

Safety Advisory for Citizens

Authorities have urged residents to follow safety measures:

  • Avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain.
  • Stay away from overflowing rivers, canals, and bridges.
  • Keep essential supplies such as food, medicines, and drinking water ready.
  • Farmers should take precautions to protect standing crops and livestock.

Outlook

Meteorologists believe that the rain spell could continue for the next 48 to 72 hours. Therefore, citizens are advised to remain alert and follow official advisories closely.
