U.S. Cancels August Trade Talks with India Amid Tariff Dispute

The U.S. has cancelled its planned trade talks with India, scheduled for August 25–29 in New Delhi, citing unresolved tariff disputes. President Donald Trump stated that negotiations will not resume until the tariff conflict is settled. Washington recently imposed new duties of up to 50% on Indian exports, impacting key sectors such as textiles, gems, and electronics. The U.S. is pressuring India to open its farm markets and reduce Russian oil imports, but New Delhi has refused. Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized that India will protect its farmers and continue to prioritize self-reliance under the Atmanirbhar Bharat agenda.
